January 1, 2010 - Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2010!  Whether you are sleeping in late, taking the day off, or working hard - this is a great time to make plans for the coming year.  What changes will we see?  How will you adapt to them?  How will you drive the outcome?  APPLE is still going strong, ready to help you answer those questions.  We've got some changes for the new year, and some events coming up very soon at the Center:

APPLE's 2010 Public Events

In 2009, we had the Sustainability Series at the Unitarian Chapel in Grass Valley.  In 2008 and 2007, we had a successful Town Hall Meeting series at the same location.

Now in 2010, we are downsizing and reshaping our public events:

For the months when the APPLE Center is opening a new exhibit (every other month, starting now in January), we plan to have a speaker at the Center during the exhibit opening.

On the alternating months (starting in February), we will be showing a film at the Center based on the exhibit theme; we hope to have a potluck again at least once or twice during the year.

While the APPLE Center is not as large as the Unitarian Chapel, we're looking forward to the exciting opportunities for conversation and networking that will come from being at our new home!

Neighborhood Readiness Project - Food Storage Demonstration

Repeats every week through Sun Jan 10 2010.

Sunday, January 3, 2010 - 1:00pm - 4:00pm

APPLE Center for Sustainable Living - 412 Commercial St., Nevada City

A local group is organizing the Neighborhood Readiness Project, an effort to encourage individuals to store some of their own food, in case of any type of supply interruption.

A demonstration of food-storage techniques will be offered at the APPLE Center in Nevada City. Participants who bring their staple foods will be assisted with bagging and, for a nominal donation, Nitrogen tanks and food-grade plastic tubing will be made available for community use. If participants would like to facilitate double-bagging, they are welcome to bring their grains or beans in 1-gallon ziplock bags. If requests for bagging exceeds our time, the equipment will be made available by appointment for anyone who would like to store foods in this way.
